cARING FOR THE OLDER PEOPLE IN OUR LIVES - IN PERSON WORKSHOP
Older People's Mental Health
SATURDAY 6TH JULY, 9AM-12:30PM (AEST)
As Christians, how can we provide better care for the older people in our community?
A high percentage of our older citizens struggle with mental health problems, a percentage that is only getting worse with time. And with an aging population, we could very well be walking into a mental health crisis of its own kind.
You can probably think of someone like this off the top of your head. Older people who keep to themselves at Church, don’t talk to many people. Maybe they find it hard to, maybe they’re satisfied with simply keeping to themselves.
But the truth of the matter is this: 1 in 5 older people struggle with mental health challenges, and there are very few people stepping up to help.
Thankfully, as Christians, we are well-positioned to assist the elderly members of our community…
But is there a right way care for older people?
How can we best support the older people in our lives, in a way that is loving and dignified?
To equip people with the skills and knowledge for this, Dr KG will be running an in-person workshop on Saturday, July 6th from 9am to 12pm. This workshop aims to help participants understand mental health issues in older persons and show how we can assist the elderly people in our lives as a faith community.
Over this 3 hour workshop, KG will show you the complete picture of older people’s mental health, from both a clinical and theological perspective.
You’ll learn everything you need to provide the elderly people in your life with practical, Christ-centred care, including:
- The modern factors affecting older people’s mental health and wellbeing
- How to spot the signs in people in your life (and why they can be so hard to spot in the first place)
- Impactful things you can do to care for and support the older people in your community
- The right (and wrong) ways to care for older people with dementia
And so you can actually use all of this new knowledge, KG will also give you a 3 step “mental health care” plan you can start using as soon as you get it.
It’ll show you exactly how to care for people who are at risk the right way, step by step. And with that, you’ll be fully equipped to provide practical, faith-based care to the older people at your church, in your community, or even your family.
Register Online and get a Free Copy of “Christian Perspective – Mental Illness and Suicide”
Finally, if you register online, we’ll also give you a free copy of KG’s book “Christian Perspective – Mental Illness and Suicide” with your ticket. It’s his complete guide to the topic of Christianity and mental health, and a perfect companion for this workshop.
Despite what we’d like to believe, there are many Christians who suffer from mental illness, and still a lot of wrong teaching around the topic. In his book, he aims to educate about mental illness and suicide, and reduce the stigma surrounding this issue.
So if you’re interested in how you can make a difference in the lives of the older people around you, this workshop is the perfect opportunity.
Just bear in mind, because it’s an in person event we have a limited number of tickets available. So please book ahead of time to make sure you get a seat.
