How we can use holistic mental health in the Church - Free Webinar
Why Holistic Mental Health?
MONDAY 14TH April, 7:30PM - 9PM (AEST)
As Christians, how should we approach holistic mental health care?
The World Health Organization (WHO) defines mental health as a “state of well-being in which the individual realises his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community”.
It’s a great ideal. But is ticking all these boxes the winning formula for a healthy happy and meaningful life?
Is holistic mental health the same thing? And is it better to view mental health as the complex definition above, or simply as the absence of distress and the ability to function in our daily lives?
In this webinar, Michael Wong will discuss the idea of holistic mental health, how it works, and how we can use it to benefit ourselves and those around us. We’ll also investigate what the bible has to say about holistic mental health, and whether it’s compatible with the biblical understanding of personal wellbeing outlined in Luke 2:52, the notion of multi-layered personal discourse a la Paul Ricoeur’s hermeneutics (Wong 2018), and other case studies (Wong 2021).
