cARING FOR THE OLDER PEOPLE IN OUR LIVES - IN PERSON WORKSHOP
A Christian Perspective on Dementia
SATURDAY 9th MAY, 9AM-1PM (AEST)
As Christians, how can we provide better care for the older people in our community?
Despite our best efforts, age catches up on us.
The body start to ache, eyesight starts to fade, and we stop being able to do the things we love. It’s even worse for those living with dementia.
But that’s just the beginning.
Since 1975, the number of people aged 65 and over has tripled. And it’s predicted to triple again in the next 50 years.
That’s roughly 4.2 million people in Australia right now. And in 2076, it’ll be 12.6 million – roughly 11% of the predicted 37 million people living here.
In other words, about one in ten people will be older than 65.
Why is that age important? Because according to research, the risk of dementia roughly doubles every 5 years from 65, reaching 10%-20% by age 80.
It’s almost guaranteed that someone you love will struggle with dementia. So, as Christians, what’s the best way to care for them?
How can we show love and compassion to people who are so often met with frustration and anger?
Understand Dementia from a Faith Perspective
