Christ-Centred Mindfulness: Connection to Self and God Webinar
with Dr. Katherine Thompson
WHEN: 15th October 2020, 6PM
DURATION: 1 hour + 30mins discussion
WHERE: Online
COST: Free
Dr. Katherine Thompson, mental health social worker and author of Christ-Centred Mindfulness, will examine the contemporary promotion of mindfulness as a practice to improve mental health. From her knowledge of neuroscience and Christian formation, she will showcase Christ-centred contemplative practice.
The webinar will compare and contrast two different approaches to mindfulness: popular mindfulness and christian contemplative prayer. It will critically examine the buddhist foundations of popular mindfulness, evidence for its effectiveness, and how this has been integrated into therapy. Important questions will be raised about the appropriateness of using these techniques within a christian context. Then the alternative christian tradition of contemplative prayer will be examined to allow participants to form a biblical and theological basis for these practises. The session will end with an outline of how christians can practise contemplative prayer, or in this case, Christ-Centred Mindfulness, in their daily life and what this entails.
Sorry to disappoint but this webinar has now concluded.
