Psychological obstacles to faith in modern world - Free Webinar

Why Did You Doubt?

WEDNESDAY 18TH SEPTEMBER, 7:30PM-9PM (AEST)

Register Online

With a changing world comes new and unique obstacles to faith. Lets look into that...

Combining psychology, philosophy and theology, Matt looks at problems with the contemporary mind and why we are facing unique problems with religious belief in the modern world.

This discussion will focus on the work of Danish Christian philosopher Soren Kierkegaard, Canadian philosopher Charles Taylor (A Secular Age, Sources of the Self) and Psychiatrist and philosopher Iain McGilchrist (The Master and his Emissary, The Matter with Things).

The combination of the perspectives of these key thinkers offers vital insights into a uniquely modern problem which can variously be described as a kind of existential absence, a detached or ‘buffered’ sense of self,  and a pathological tendency relate to reality as a ‘closed world system.’  Most importantly this seminar has a very practical pastoral concern.

Presenter: Dr Matt Jacoby

Dr Matt Jacoby is lecturer in Christian Thought at MST and senior pastor of OneHope Baptist Church in Geelong. He has a passion for exploring the philosophical foundations of Christian thought and challenging the mindsets that work against the Christian faith.

As a pastor Matt is concerned with the dysfunctional ways in which many people try to ‘overthink’ faith which leads to spirals of doubt that keep people in a state of spiritual paralysis.
